I was honored to be asked to paint the residence of the U.S. Ambassador to Austria in Vienna. The house was all white when we started the project. The idea was to create a sense of time and place. the inspiration was the works of Austrian painter Gustov Klimt, using patterns he used and in the case of the breakfast room copying one of his works. This is a photo of the Living Room at Christmas.
The Dining Room was painted in Farrow and Ball paint and then I painted the pattern with liquid metallic gold leaf. Beautiful gold guilt heritage pieces mixed with those from the secessionist period make this room sing.
The pattern for The Dining Room can be found in Klimt’s Beethoven Frieze at the Secessionist Museum in Vienna. Project portfolio
The Living Room was designed to reflexed the Garden outside. The pattern grows from the floor and organically thins out as we reach the ceiling as if they were vines. Metalic gold is incorporated into the painting witch is the constant between rooms. Project portfolio
The harmony of the transitions from room to room is accomplished by using the repeating colors and pattern (Gold dot are present in each of the four side by side rooms). Project portfolio
The Music Room pattern appears to fall from the ceiling in contrast to the upward movement in the living room. The metalic gold is repeated as well as the dots and swirls from the living room . Project portfolio
The Breakfast Room is a literal copy of The Tree of Life by Gustov Klimt and perhaps my favorite room. Metalic gold and swirls liven up this small light filled space. Project portfolio
The Upstairs Foyer is hand painted in the style of Chinoiserie. Flowers and birds float in the trees. Project portfolio
